Reader Appreciation Day

It's true. I appreciate each and every one of you. Especially the regulars. A few of you are regulars, right? I know there are a gazillion blogs that you could be reading right now and here you are reading mine. Thank you.

I really wish blogs didn't have to be virtual. I wish we were all in the same place - say in a cozy cafe on Quai de la Tournelle gazing across the river at Notre Dame - having a conversation face-to-face instead of me plopped on my bed writing these words and you, sometime later, reading my words to yourself, wherever you are, in complete anonymity to me. It's not fair. At least you can see my picture. There are probably 90% of you that I will never have the opportunity to know or even see your picture.

But I digress. That maudlin rant was not the point of this post. This is Reader Appreciation Day. The day where I let you know how honored I am that you've stopped by. And especially appreciative of those of you who drop in and then come back on a regular basis.

I was thinking about it this afternoon. What can I give back to the people who take time out of their day to read my blog? And I immediately had a flash. How about a print?

So, that's what I'm going to do. Sort of. I can't afford to do a give-away that will require me to outlay cash. Sorry. But times are tough. My house on Easy Street was sold off when I was twelve. I'm struggling just like everybody else. Well, except maybe John Mayer or, I don't know, who else makes a boatload of cash these days? Oh yeah, that chick that's on TV every afternoon...what's her name...Oprah.

But I am going to offer a couple of prints for what it costs me to package and ship. These are the prints...

I'm going to "give away" 20 of each print. Your shipping and packing cost is $12.50. You need to send me an email to prints@cheshercat.com telling me what you want to order and your mailing address. If they're still available I will send you back an email instructing you how to make the payment on Paypal. If you order a 2nd print at the same time, your total will be $17.50. Limit of two prints per person and you can order two of the same or one of each.

In case you don't know, the Tom Waits print sells for $30 + $8 shipping and the George Harrison print currently sells for $15 + $8 shipping. So, I figure the $12.50 is a deal and $17.50 for two prints pretty much kills. And as I said, I can only offer 20 of each print. Sorry I can't afford to make them completely free.

Thanks again for taking an interest in what I do. If we were at that Parisian cafe I'd give you a big, fat hug.

***ooops...I forgot to mention...this offer is only available to US addresses...if you're somewhere else you can email me and I can give you a quote for the shipping cost to your destination***

Shop 'Til You Drop

It's finally up and running.

.

When you enter the site, you'll see three sections that link to "store" areas.

Starart - Not only can you purchase from my stash (items start at $40 and run as high as $3000), but I also posted a video we made from clips of the gallery shows and my appearance on Merv Griffin (guess who's sitting next to me?). It's fun (and embarrassing if you're me) to see me geek out with the artists. What can I say?-some of us had been partying on the way to the show.

Tom Waits - The poster is waiting there for you to take it home at put it on your wall. So are the open edition and limited edition prints. If you have any disposable income (and like Tom) you should consider investing in one of the numbered and signed (by me, not TW) or open edition signed photo prints. There's a gallery interested in repping the edition and if I go with them they'll be selling them at double the price and I will have to do the same.

Everybody I Shot Is Dead - There's a link to the blurb on the book and you'll be able to buy the book (pre-order) in July. The perks for pre-ordering are a nice discount, the books signed, an invite to the gallery opening nearest you and getting the book before it hits the stores. I'm also tossing around the idea of a discount coupon toward the purchase of a limited edition print from the book...but don't hold me to that.

So, what are you waiting for? Go check out . Wander around, even if you don't want to buy anything. Then come back here and let me know what you think of it. Is it easy to navigate? Are the options clear and easy to figure out? And what what you thought of the video.

We didn't have a big budget to make a site with all the bells and whistles - and it was a real pain in the ass trying to implement all the shipping variables - so, at this point, we're just hoping that it's functional.

By the way, if you're on myspace, please stop by my and add me as a friend. I'm also working on a myspace for the new book/my rock & roll photography. I'll let you know when that's happening too.

That's it for now...gotta get back to the written portion of Everybody I Shot Is Dead.

Tom Waits Photo

The Wait's almost over.

Next week I'm going to present my first Tom Waits photograph for purchase. The first image I am offering is the live shot of him smoking.

I spent the past several months mulling over the best way to cater to all income brackets without compromising quality. And I finally figured it out.

For the die-hard Tom Waits collectors there will be a 16"x20" limited edition of 75 numbered and signed (by me, not Tom) archival photographic prints. I chose an edition of 75 because that is the year the photograph was taken. Once the 75 are sold there will be no more available, unless someone decides to resell. The initial price on this offering will be $400 and will be subject to change as the edition sells out.

For the die-hard Tom Waits collectors that can't get in on the limited edition, there will be an 11"x14" open edition signed by me (but not numbered) of archival photographic prints. The initial price on this offering will be $200, and subject to change.

And finally, for the die-hard collectors and fans in all tax brackets, there will be an unlimited museum-quality lithographic print (unsigned) on heavyweight matte paper. The initial price on this offering will be $25 for the first month and $30 thereafter. The image size will be 9.5"x14" on 11x17 paper. And it will look like this (without all that copyright stuff on the image, of course):

All prints will be available for purchase via my website only and should be up by the end of next week, once the printing is done.

If you want to reserve a print in advance, feel free to email your request to: twprints@cheshercat.com

A Promise is a Promise...Tom Waits

Update
The Tom Waits poster and limited edition photographs
are available...run, don't walk to

Update - 4/11/07
The Tom Waits prints will be for sale by the end of next week.
Check out what's available

A few weeks ago the blog heard that I had some old TomWaits pictures up. Suddenly, I had hundreds of TW fans linking to my post. The point of the post was to show that I was capable of taking not-so-great photographs, using all five shots of TW from when he opened a Frank Zappa concert in Vancouver. I balanced the bad pics out with one decent photo I took at the Troubadour the following year. Still, the TW fans were kind. They even commented that they liked the photos. So after bunches of people had stopped by, I edited the post promising to put up a few more.

Here they are - never-before-seen photographs - shot at the Troubadour the second week of August, 1975.

Please chime in in the comments if you can identify the sax player
and the guy on the upright bass. I like this photo - it really gives
the feel of his show...the stack of papers he's clutching
and all the cigarette butts on the floor.

He had a lot of hair topple out when he took off the hat.

I love this photograph. Putting it in my Top Five along
with the Led Zeppelin pic (second post down).

And now for a pre-announcement announcement. Since the inception of my book, I had always planned to have gallery openings to kick off the book drop (can I use drop for publishing or is that just for CDs?), with Limited Editions of the photographs available for sale. And I thought I would follow that with Limited Editions of some of my other photographs not in the book.

Recently, I've been encouraged to release the Limited Edition prints of photographs that won't be in the book before the publication...as in soon. I am currently researching all the logistics of this endeavor. Such as, finding a lab I want to work with, finding a framer, deciding on how many prints per Edition (I'm thinking 50-100, possibly in three different sizes), how much they will cost, and how I'm going to set up a retail site.

The one thing I have decided on...I'll be launching with a Tom Waits photograph. Please email me (deborah@cheshercat.com) if you want to be notified before the Tom Waits Edition hits the streets. And, if you have an opinion on which photo I should launch with.

Please let me know in the comments who else you might want to see in future Limited Editions. If I haven't shot them, I'll guide you to someone who has.
