As I've said before, it's really hard to find anything attributed to Mighty Joe Young because of the gorilla/movie with the same name. Just found this video which says Mighty Joe Young on it but I'm not 100% sure...seems younger in this video than when I shot him, but I'm going with it:

Today is the 10th anniversary of the passing of the great bluesman, Mighty Joe Young.

Last year I searched and searched for MJY footage (it's hard when you have to scour through all the gorilla movie youtube vids) and found only one thing. And it's now been taken down. The only thing I could find now was this song with no footage:



Anyone out there who has footage on this fine, fine musician, please share it so we can get Mighty Joe Young the props he deserves and a new generation of fans.

Mighty Joe Young

Not the movie...the very soothing blues guitarist and singer. He passed away 9 years ago today at the age of 71 due to complications from spinal surgery.

I have vivid memories of the day I shot him. It was a day long Blues Jam that also included Withersponn, Collins and Hollywood Fats (sadly, all in my book) and Taj Mahal. I had a really great time and needless to say, the music was ridiculously great.
