Michael Bloomfield

Michael Bloomfield was my friend. We took this picture together by stacking some phone books together and setting the self timer, after I had spent several hours trying to teach him photography. He was pretty clumsy with the camera but he was a genius on the guitar.

You can see lots more pictures and learn more about Michael Bloomfield and the 47 other musicians in my tribute book, .

Mike Bloomfield is one of my top ten favorite guitarist. I admire him a lot. You are welcome to check my huge post about him (I even put a link to your blog if you don't mind):

I too considered Michael Bloomfield one of the best guitar players ever. The things he could do with this six stringed instrument were incredible Such a talented man. Over the past Memorial day weekend I went to San francisco. One of the places I was determined to visit was Monterey and specifically the site of the Monterey Pop Festival of 67. The actual stage was a fenced in area with the usual warning signs about not entering. Lucky for me I found a spot where the gate was actually open. I thought what the hell I'll go in and see how far I can get. To my surprise the whole place was empty, not a person around, so I continued walking around until I came upon the actual stage and surrounding area where the people sat. For me it was a great feeling to be right there. I have viewed the movie many times and it all looked the same. I was amazed at the awning over the bleachers you know the accordian shaped ceiling, all there. I was tempted to go up on the stage but did not want to push my luck. It would of been great to stand on the same stage that Michael and all the other great groups that performed on that day some 43 years ago to the day. Needless to say that I took quite a few pictures that day. I was 14 years of age then and I still get the same spine tingling reaction to Michael's music as I did back then.

Mike Bloomfield has always been the epitome, no the quintessence of blues/jazz/rock guitarists. I was always awed at the sweet sounds his fingers would make his guitar weep and then drive every number he played. His playing is truly, as he would have said, "where its at."
